It’s the time for reaping the harvest and enjoying the good yield crops. As Pongal arrives, the country gears up for the harvest festival which is welcomed with ploughs working the soil, eating sugarcane and rejoicing with nature. Everyone gets together to thank nature for its bountiful resources. It is a four - day festival which starts with Bogi Pongal, Maattu Pongal and ends up with Kari naal. Jallikattu is an integral part of Maattu Pongal and it is enthusiastically celebrated in villages. Pongal is celebrated all over the country in different names like Lohri, Makara Sunkranthi, etc. It is the festival for farmers who uphold a high responsibility of growing crops and saving the people.

As the January chill sets in, the joy of Pongal resounds the air. Pongal was celebrated on January 12th, 2017 in our campus. It is one of the longest celebrations in the Tamil calendar, spread over four days. Students of our College celebrated Pongal on the theme “Uzhavarodu Uravadu” and organized various games like Urri addi, filling water in the bottle and cultural programmes like Kummi Attam and Kummi Pattu, based on the folk culture. All the students and staff members of the college participated in the celebration. Both faculty and students were dressed in traditional outfits. Every year, Pongal is celebrated in our college in all magnificence, in a traditional style. Rangoli and flower carpets were designed by the students and staff together, and Pongal was prepared. Joy filled the air; it was totally a colorful Pongal at CMS College of Education.
